ABOUT THE RAINBOW PRIDE FOUNDATION
The Rainbow Pride Foundation (RPF) is a not-for-profit organisation legally registered in Fiji that advocates for the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex persons so that they are respected, live with dignity and are free from discrimination, persecution and violence. Our mandate covers LGBTIQ rights and equality, social justice, climate justice, economic empowerment, and health and wellbeing. We work alongside communities, partners and institutions so that every person in Fiji can participate fully in decisions that shape their household, their community and their country.
Who we are
Founded on the principle that all people are entitled to equal treatment regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, primary language, disability, economic status, family status or opinion, RPF brings together volunteers, peer educators, advocates and community leaders from across Fiji. We are community-led: the people who carry our programmes are the same people the programmes serve. That closeness to the community is what allows us to notice exclusion early, respond quickly, and design support that people actually use.
Our work is deliberately broad because exclusion is rarely a single-issue problem. A person who is denied respectful healthcare may also be pushed out of work; a family displaced by a cyclone may lose the networks that protected them. We therefore work at the intersection of rights, health, livelihoods and climate resilience, and we keep the voices of the most marginalised members of our community at the centre of that work.
What we do
RPF runs programmes across Fiji and contributes to Pacific-wide advocacy. Our work is organised around community mobilisation, human rights education, health promotion, climate and disaster resilience, and economic empowerment. We convene training workshops, support peer education networks, contribute to national consultations, and produce practical resources for communities, service providers and decision-makers.
We also work with government agencies, civil society organisations, faith and community leaders, regional bodies and international partners. Partnership is not a formality for us: change in Fiji is only durable when the institutions that shape daily life — health services, schools, workplaces, the police, disaster response — are part of it.
Our priority areas
- Rights and equality — human rights education, legal literacy and advocacy for non-discrimination.
- Health and wellbeing — HIV prevention and support, stigma reduction, and access to respectful services.
- Social justice — addressing gender-based violence and exclusion in all its forms.
- Climate justice — inclusive disaster risk reduction, relocation planning and community resilience.
- Economic empowerment — skills, livelihoods and access to resources and services.
How RPF works with communities
Our approach follows a simple cycle: listen, learn together, act, and review. Community consultations identify what is actually happening on the ground; peer networks carry information in language people trust; training builds practical skills; and reflection sessions let us correct course. RPF is sustained by the time of volunteers, the trust of the community and the generosity of supporters. You can take part by volunteering your skills, sharing our material through your own networks, inviting us to speak with your organisation, or contributing to our programmes.
